The Ancient Art of Fresco Painting inspired by the Italian Lifestyle. Celebrating Italian Art and Architecture, Culture, Food, and Relationships.
What is "My Italy"? I am often asked about travel to Italy, where is the best place to go, eat, shop. My answer is always the same...just go and enjoy where ever you end up! In doing this you will find what I have found to be “My Italy.” Unique to each of us that are lucky enough to visit this well loved place, a country with so much to offer. It really depends on what you value, the things that interests you, what you come here for.
I am here in the southern Italian town of Ferruzzano, the village of my mother and grandparents. Here for an entire month I have brought pigments and brushes and prepared canvases. I plan to paint and take photographs yes, but I also came to enjoy the sea, find solace in the simplicity of small town living, absorb the richness of history and culture of this ancient land, sit with the people and talk about family traditions that have disappeared or are quickly disappearing. Perhaps I will even learn a new recipe or two! Welcome to "My Italy" I hope it will inspire you to come and find an Italy of your own that is special to you but just as wonderful!
Well... in Greek mythology Penelope's sister's name is Ipthime. She appears to Penelope in a dream to soothe her worry for her husband Odysseus. Not the prettiest name though!
ReplyDeletehmmm, Ipthime?? Doesn't roll off the tongue very well does it? Although I like the story...ahh...I was thinking "Calypso" She was the beautiful sea nympth that kept Odysseus "occupied" on her island for a while before he returned home to Penelope....I like it but I am not sure if the word "calypso" is too heavily associated with the dance instead?? what do you think?
